Settling In

It has been about two weeks since we moved into our new house.  It is already starting to feel like home.

When we first moved our stuff into the house, we then left for Cleveland for my cousin's wedding.  So, we didn't stay in it until after we came back from the trip.  T~ walked me across the threshold.  Newlywed fun, and a great way to celebrate just over six months of marriage!

I kept fairly mum about the house as I was worried something may not work out.  We actually put an offer on another house in February, but we missed it by an hour.  There was a contingency offer on that house and the other family sold their house just before we submitted our offer.  It was disappointing.  However, it all worked out because we really like this house more.  The other house was very nice and an easy practical choice, but it was one of four houses we looked at when really starting to look since toeing the waters in the fall.  It almost seemed too good to be true.

Our closing was in the beginning of May.  You can see a picture here.  It took us about six weeks to move into the house because we needed to get some electrical updates.  While the kitchen and bathrooms has been updated, the rest of the house only had two pronged outlets.  We needed to do a little bit of updating to be able to plug in our TV and computer.  Plus, there was no previous washer and dryer, or even electrical outlets for them.  We believe the prior owner who lived in the house may have used a hand crank washer or went to the laundromat.  Plus, I wanted better lightning for the basement stairs and a light/fan combo for the main bathroom.  Not flashy upgrades, but we are excited about them!

However, with the delay in our move, it gave us time to take advantage of some nice sales.  We bought a new washer and dryer.  It is crazy the amount of technology has changed washers and dryers since the last time I went shopping for them.  Leaps and bounds!  Whenever I turn them on, I feel like I am in the future.  We also bought a new couch and got a really good deal on it.  Unfortunately, the old couch does not fit in the basement, so we will have to sell it.  Then, we got some awesome super sales on two rugs.  One is for our bedroom and one is for the guestroom.  We have hardwood floors throughout, which we really like.

Still plenty of packing, but it is coming together slowly.  We are happy to be in our new home!

  1. I just wanted to pop in and say hi! I'm here from Mel's roundup, but, well, I was intrigued, entered the rabbit hole, and now it's a couple of hours later and I've read almost your entire blog. I think it's natural to try to find similarities between oneself and the blogger you are reading, so here's my list: I was born and raised in Ohio too, someday I hope to move back, right now Pittsburgh is home, Pittsburgh will be home for at least a few more years because like you we just bought a house in May, oh, and our professions are similar(ish) from what I can tell. Just thought I'd say hi and give some context to your blog stats (i.e., some crazy person reading posts from five years ago).

    1. Hello! Thank you for stopping by my blog! You are the second IF blog I've read this week who has moved to Pittsburgh. It is a neat town and I'm fairly certain you will enjoy it. Bloomfield is Pittsburgh's Little Italy and has great food. They will have their Little Italy Days Festival in September. Love North Park in the North Hills. Kennywood is a cute amusement park. Funny how we have some commonalities.

  2. Congrats on moving in and all the updates! How lovely that you got so much on sale, because you didn't have to rush. We still have an older washer and dryer, and I'm afraid if we get new ones I won't know how to operate all the bells and whistles (while at the same time I would love a new washer and dryer, but ours are old Maytag and those last FOREVER). Hooray for new beginnings!

    1. Thanks! We are pretty excited and enjoying the newness of living in it. The washer and drier were pretty intimidating at first, but it was fairly easy getting used to them. But, great that your washer and dryer have worked so well for so long!

  3. Congratulations!! Isn't it fun getting cool new stuff?? Dh & I just moved into a condo in April. We are still getting settled, buying new furniture, etc. The condo is one year old so the appliances are all new, & newer than what I left at our old house. My washer & dryer there were about six years old, front loader, but I hear you on the appliances & trying to figure out how they all work, lol. Especially since the previous owners didn't leave most of the manuals. :p I managed to find all but the dishwasher online. The washer & dryer don't beep or buzz when the cycle is done, they play a little song. Dh giggles every time he hears it. :)

    1. Thank you, Loribeth! Moving into a new home can be exciting, especially while starting to make it your own. Funny that you mention the song on the clothes washer! Ours plays a little song ,too, when it is done. I feel like I should be on The Jetsons! Hope all is getting more settled for you in your new home. :)
