Freedom and Happiness

After reading a post from another blogger, I had to borrow her quote and put it here so that I can remember it.

"Freedom is the room to move in the harness."--Fred Holden riffing on Robert Frost.

Part of my response:  I have experienced freedom in different ways at various times in my life.  It seems freedom is about perspective and achieving the balance of acceptance of the limits or boundaries and appreciating the life you make within them.  Somewhere in there lays the secrets of happiness.

  2. Oh I love this! I definitely think that happiness lies in acceptance of limits/boundaries and appreciation of life within those limits, even though it is hard to think of limits being a good thing when people are told all the time "Anything is possible! Break those boundaries!". The truth is, there are limits to what's possible and accepting that within reason will result in more happiness and freedom to love what definitely CAN be. (I'm not putting my own experience into this too much, am I? Ha.) Love this perspective.

  3. Thanks! I'm glad the original quote speaks to you. It is also nice to have others that understand sometimes there are limits or boundaries on things. It doesn't mean you didn't want it badly enough. Sometimes our paths have to change. It may be another way to get to the end goal or it may be a new dream.
